Description

American Glazed Donuts are a beloved treat, featuring a light and airy dough with a sweet, shiny glaze. Whether enjoyed for breakfast or dessert, these homemade donuts rival any bakery version. Fried to golden perfection and coated in a classic vanilla glaze, they are irresistibly delicious!

Ingredients
    3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (440 g)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (7 g)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (180 ml)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (1 g)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (60 g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 ml)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (240 g)
  • 1/4 cup whole milk (60 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 ml)
Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm milk with the yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 30–45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½ inch (1.3 cm) thick. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small) to cut out donuts and holes. Place them on a parchment-lined tray and let them rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry 2–3 donuts at a time, cooking for about 1 minute per side until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. While the donuts are still warm, dip them into the glaze, letting the excess drip off. Place them on a wire rack to set.
  8. Enjoy your homemade glazed donuts fresh with coffee or milk!
