Description

Spanish Churros are a classic fried pastry, delightfully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Traditionally paired with rich hot chocolate or dusted with cinnamon sugar, these treats are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a cozy snack. Quick and easy to prepare, they bring the charm of a Spanish café straight to your kitchen.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup water (240 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (30 g)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (30 g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (1 g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (2.5 ml)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100 g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (3 g)
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Heat over medium until the butter melts and the mixture begins to simmer.
  2. Reduce the heat to low, add the flour, and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a smooth dough that pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Once the dough has cooled, add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until the dough becomes smooth and slightly sticky.
  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 375°F (190°C). Pipe 4-5 inch (10-12 cm) strips of dough directly into the oil, cutting with scissors. Fry in small batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Roll the warm churros in the mixture until fully coated.
  8. Serve immediately with hot chocolate or your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
